RESOLUTION NO. 2002-16
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Washington, creating a Youth Council.
WHEREAS, it is important and beneficial to all citizens of the City of Lakewood to involve the community's young people in the process of government and the ideals of public service; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood has benefited from the past participation of Youth Advisors, and the Lakewood City Council wishes to expand its Youth Advisor Program to increase the opportunities for young people to contribute to local government; and,
WHEREAS, in order to facilitate increased participation, the Youth Advisor Program would benefit from a more formal, organized and cohesive structure, which would be hereinafter known as the City of Lakewood Youth Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN as Follows:
Section 1. That the City of Lakewood hereby create a Youth Council of between six (6) and twelve (12) members of high school age who reside or attend school in the City of Lakewood, including at least two (2) representatives of each high school in the City.
Section 2. That each member of the Youth Council fulfill at least minimum duties during their term on the Youth Council. Said minimum duties would be, and the same are hereby listed, as follows:
· Designated Youth Council, of at least two members, shall attend at least one City Council meeting per month and give a report. This is usually the first Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers.

The approved activities are to be facilitated by the City Manager or his designee.Section 3. That the term of service for each member of the Youth Council will be one year, commencing on the first day of July in the year of appointment and ending upon the 30th day of June in following year. Further, upon successful completion of one year of service, any eligible Youth Council member may be reappointed for an additional term of service.
Section 4. Effective Date. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon passage and signatures hereon.
