RESOLUTION NO. 2010-02
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Washington, designating the color blue as the official color for holiday lights in the commercial districts of the City, and requesting use thereof by businesses in the City
WHEREAS, since 1997 the City of Lakewood has traditionally used blue lights as the official Lakewood color for holiday season decorations; and,
WHEREAS, the blue holiday lights have provided a characteristically Lakewood aspect to holiday decorations within the business community of the City; and,
WHEREAS, blue holiday lights are also used to recognize and memorialize public safety officers lost in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, on November 29, 2009 the City of Lakewood lost four police officers: Sergeant Mark Renninger, Officer Tina Griswold, Officer Ronald Owens and Officer Greg Richards, in the most tragic incident of this nature in Washington State history; and
WHEREAS, it would be advantageous and appropriate for the City to recognize not only the historical significance of the use of blue holiday lights but also the sacrifice made by public safety officers and to encourage the use of blue lights by all Lakewood residents and business community of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON HEREBY RESOLVES, as follows:
Section 1. That blue is the color designated as the official Lakewood color for holiday lights in the commercial districts of the City.
Section 2. That businesses within the City of Lakewood are encouraged and requested to utilize blue lights in their holiday decorations in honor of both the holidays and the dedication and sacrifice of public safety officers.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon passage and signatures hereon.
