RESOLUTION NO. 2012-06
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Washington, expressing support for the Clover Park School District Programs and Operations Levy coming before the voters on February 14, 2012.
WHEREAS, education is critical to the moral, emotional and intellectual development of all citizens of the City of Lakewood; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that the Clover Park School District, with more than 12,000 enrolled students, has proposed this levy to replace the district’s current programs and operations levy, which expires in December of 2012; and,
WHEREAS, levy funds are needed to maintain current teacher/student ratios, to purchase textbooks and instructional materials, to purchase library materials and librarians, to provide student academic and career guidance and health room assistance including counselors, nurses and health paras, to provide educational program improvements (gifted, ELL, special education and assessments), and to provide districtwide teaching and learning activities; and
WHEREAS, levy funds will be used for school maintenance and operations including building maintenance (painting, roofing, flooring and lighting), custodians, grounds maintenance, student transportation services, food services and classroom furniture; and,
WHEREAS, levy funds will be used to provide school technology including classroom computers, instructional software, to upgrade wiring, and to pay internet access costs; and,
WHEREAS, levy funds will be used for safety and security including school resource officers (police), campus supervisors, fire alarms and facility property security systems; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lakewood believes that the funding sought through this levy is critical for the district to provide acceptable levels of educational service for the students it serves.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES, as follows:
Section 1. That the City Council expresses its support for the passage of the Clover Park School District Education Programs and Operations Levy, which will come before the voters on February 14, 2012.
Section 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon passage and signatures hereon.
