RESOLUTION NO. 2008-02
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Washington, expressing support for the Clover Park School District School Operations Levy coming before the voters on March 11, 2008.
WHEREAS, the Clover Park School District Board of Directors is proposing a four-year educational programs and operational levy in a special election on Tuesday, March 11, 2008; and,
WHEREAS, education is critical to the moral, emotional and intellectual development of
all citizens of the City of Lakewood and there is an achievement gap for the students of the Clover Park School District; and,
WHEREAS, the City must demonstrate a belief in public education and support for our School District as a message to prospective residents and businesses that the City cares about the education of its population; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that the Clover Park School District has proposed a levy that will replace the district?s current educational programs and operations levy which expires in December, 2008; and,
WHEREAS, the total tax rate for a new levy and the current bond is anticipated to be less than what taxpayers are currently paying.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES, as follows:
Section 1. That the City Council expresses its support for the passage of the Clover Park School District school operations levy, which will come before the voters on March 11, 2008.
Section 2. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect upon passage and signatures hereon.
