ORDINANCE NO. 424
AN ORDINANCE of the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Washington, amending the City of Lakewood Employee Classification and Compensation Plan to remove the classifications of Police Officer, Detective and Sergeant as these are now governed by a collective bargaining agreement.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lakewood, Washington, has adopted various ordinances identifying compensation and benefit levels with the intention of attracting and retaining qualified individuals to serve as employees in the City?s various departments; and,
WHEREAS, because the City and the Lakewood Police Independent Guild (LPIG) have, through the collective bargaining process, reached agreement as to compensation for Police Officer, Detective, and Sergeant; and,
WHEREAS, the agreed compensation differs from the compensation identified in the City?s Compensation Plan and will, from inception of bargained compensation be identified and negotiated differently from the City?s Compensation Plan; and
WHEREAS, removal of those classifications whose compensation is determined via collective bargaining will alleviate potential confusion as to the compensation for those positions;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN as Follows:
Section 1. That the City of Lakewood Employee Compensation and Benefit Plan is hereby amended as follows:
Section 2. Severability. If any section, sentence, clause, or phrase of this ordinance should be held invalid or unconstitutional, such decision shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of any other section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance.
Section 3. Effective Date. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect five (5) days after publication of the Ordinance Summary.
